    . I suppose I could just use a normal class and write my own version of those.

    yeah, i’m playing around with that now - i’m not yet sure what the generated copy method does. i can’t see how i could prevent the copy method from changing the value (without the call to trim, say).

    String.get(index: Int) why is Int and not Long?

    Because `String`s internal representation for 
    length
    is also 
    Int
    , so they can't be longer.
