note for me or Ilya on that:
    >> Ah, the issue is that we are expecting an idle status after every iopub message per the 5.0 spec: "Changed in version 5.0: Busy and idle messages should be sent before/after handling every request, not just execution." The classic notebook is more lenient because it also supports older protocol versions.

Don't know how many of you watch Silicon Valley on HBO, but the Not Hotdog app from this week's episode was just launched for real. Great example of using machine learning to solve pressing real world problems https://www.engadget.com/2017/05/15/not-hotdog-app-hbo-silicon-valley/

I forgot to emphasize I am avoiding inheritance and polymorphism. A lot of folks may be coming from Python with little OOP experience. It's not necessary for a primer course anyway.

The collection literals are discussed regularly and I think the consensus is: 1) There are no valid use cases apart from demo ware 2) There is no nice way to introduce them with Kotlin's type system

@kyonifer I'm playing with Koma. I feel like we can extend this a bit and make it more Kotlin-idiomatic... but leave the existing functionality too.

@ilya.chernikov is there a way to make the jupyter notebook editor in IJ aware of the fact that I’d like to create a notebook using the kotlin-kernel (see https://github.com/ligee/kotlin-jupyter) and to switch the language context for the code chunks? The kernel works great in the browser, but I’d like to stick to IJ for the coding part.

@ilya.chernikov another question, I’ve noticed and successfully reproduced the svg example
    KotlinSample01.ipynb
in the repo. Is there a similar way to display instances of
    java.awt.image
    ?

@holgerbrandl it looks like there are many REPL issues, which ones do you think are the biggest ones that need the most attention for usability? https://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issues/KT?q=repl

I would encourage you guys to engage with that project Gerrit is doing. He builds stuff like this over coffee, and he could single-handedly overthrow commercial charting solutions given time and community support.

One of my coworkers just pitched a phenomenal chart idea (the "Flow Circle" I think it's called) with lots of practical use. I just proposed it. https://github.com/HanSolo/charts/issues/3

@louiscad keep in mind Python spent years catching up to R, and it was necessary for for Python devs to know R for that reason. So this is nothing new. Therefore it might be helpful to manage your expectations a bit and learn Python. I highly recommend this book. https://gumroad.com/l/py4java You're not going to get very effective interop unless you use Docker or something.
