Back to the basics: @sebmob answers the questions How to best learn Kotlin? depending if you start from scratch or from Java, prefer to read books follow tutorials or build things, work in the browser or install the IDE. I guess they are few Kotlin beginners here, but sharing this useful interview would be appreciated! https://dev.to/jmfayard/best-ways-to-learn-kotlin-from-scratch-or-from-java-with-books-or-tutorials-online-or-in-the-ide-52cm

Playing around with Kotlin I created a simple currencies DSL. It provides operations and exchanges between currencies. Behind the scenes it uses #coroutines to asynchronously fetch exchange rates https://github.com/antonis/kcurrencies

Phase 1 of the Persephone Unframework in a working condition, a flexible HTML DSL which can already be used with Ktor / VertX or any other server-side framework to render pages server-side. Any feedback welcome! Phase2 will focus on pure client-side rendering like react / angular / vue / ... is doing Phase3 will focus on hybrid server-side + client-side, aka Isomorphic applications without the need for NodeJS (continue to use Ktor / VertX or whatever you prefer, do the initial page load via server-side and keep the UI updated without having to reload the page after the initial load) https://github.com/persephone-unframework/dsl

Any feedback on the way I've implemented parameterized unit tests in JUnit 5 would be much appreciated! 🙏 Embarrassingly when I started building the Unidirectional Data Flow (UDF) with LiveData pattern five months ago, I did not have testing experience. This made for a great opportunity to develop local unit testing fundamentals in Coinverse same code below. https://proandroiddev.com/android-unidirectional-data-flow-local-unit-testing-487a6e6f5c9

There are known issues with testing singletons and mocking static methods. It's a pattern to be approached with care.

📚 Android Sample App using modular, clean, scalable, testable Architecture written in Kotlin following the best practices with Jetpack. The architecture of the application is based, apply and strictly complies with each of the following 5 points: • A single-activity architecture, using the Navigation component to manage fragment operations. • Android architecture components, part of Android Jetpack for give to project a robust design, testable and maintainable. • Pattern Model-View-ViewModel (MVVM) facilitating a separation of development of the graphical user interface. • S.O.L.I.D design principles intended to make software designs more understandable, flexible and maintainable. • Modular app architecture allows to be developed features in isolation, independently from other features. I thought this may interest some here :) some concepts can be confusing. Specially when you are used to their meaning in programming before learning English. I still remember the day I realized
    String
    comes from a "cord/rope" of characters 🤯 https://twitter.com/pablisc0/status/1222171540567085057

Read the "Domain Modeling Made Functional" book, but did the code examples in Kotlin (and Arrow-kt where appropriate). I've published the repo at https://gitlab.com/mikezx6r/domain-functional. For the
    Result
    , I've used
    Either
    as
    BIO
    isn't quite available.
    BIO
appears close, so I may use the 0.11.0-SNAPSHOT of Arrow, and add a version using that. Regardless, if you have any comments, feedback, or questions on the code, please let me know. Certainly increases my desire to use a strictly typed domain for writing code. You'd still want tests (of which I only have a few in this repo), but it simplifies testing. Mocking becomes providing a Lambda that conforms to the signature and returns the value you want. No complicated (and slow) mocking frameworks. Simple DI in the real code, explicit business case error vs exceptional situation separation. I see many benefits to this approach.

How does that compare to AssertK?
r

robstoll

02/06/2020, 8:47 AM
I don't really know AssertK, last time I looked at it, it wasn't that great but I think they progressed quite a bit. IMO the main advantage of Atrium compared to AssertK is that Atrium has better error reporting: https://github.com/robstoll/atrium#examples AssertK on the other hand can also be used for native which Atrium cannot yet (open a feature request if you would like to use it on native, so far I did not had this use case) Cannot really tell you more, let me know in case you do a comparison, would be interesting
