RN is so boring. Cause everything you want depends of the community, so your project will be fulll of dependencies.

can you please tell us what would you do first with Kotlin Native

We have an Android application that uses big native library (our product as well) that used by other platforms and If we can get efficient interop with native code from kotlin-native and interop kotlin-jvm to kotlin-native it will be really convenient for us and allow to easily write own wrappers without all JNI ceremony and exchange the data between NDK and SDK

Also, probably, in future it would be cool to share code between our Android and iOS application and Native code as well

let me troll you for a second with an idea

kotlin-java and kotlin-js both benefit significantly from their great interop with their base runtimes

and, of course, as long as there was a way to convert C++ headers into kotlin-native external declarations.

i note that interop with C++ is traditionally considered impossible or too hard, however, there's no fundamental reason it must be so if you intelligently target a subset of the language

most libraries are in C so that’s not a problem

Unfortunately, there are not so many C++ libraries that fit into "standardized ABI". In fact, I've ever seen, like... one(!?) - LLDB core

Or some C library wrappers that don't use templates, but you already have a C library in that case.

you can definitely do classes with methods, and recognise e.g. std::string parameters, things like that

@rwachol there are lots of C++ only APIs, for instance, most commercial game engines ...

@mikehearn When I first hear of Kotlin native, my first want was to use it as a replacement for c++ in game development (in Unreal 4, Godot 3, Banshee), but I figured it was too much to hope for.

but most libraries "in general" are not C at all. lots of industrial code and of course codebases are C++

if kotlin-native could do the same gradual interop/transition trick that kotlin-jvm can do, that'd completely change its value proposition

and it will need to compile to an ABI anyway, so may as well use the C++ one as much as possible for things like name mangling
