Not forgetting Kotlin/JS, but I do think wasm will mature, and quickly, in which case if you're doing most of your architecture in Kotlin, it'll be harder to justify

using JS

Oh yeah for sure. I'm coming from the side where we already have some shared business logic originally written in JS for the web, and then bundled into our native mobile apps so we didn't have to reinvent the wheel and rewrite things. It's not exactly major architectural components of our apps, but more like state machines and decision trees that are expected to run on web/iOS/Android with high performance and consistent results. Using KMPP to port the shared JS libraries into shared Kotlin libraries has been pretty darn awesome. It gives us: - huge performance wins on iOS and Android - app size wins on Android since we no longer need to bundle J2V8 - perfectly usable JS (albeit slightly larger compared to handwritten JS) - and gets us on a migration path to wasm 🙂

I think Kotlin/JS is fine. I'm not even anti-JS per say, just excited for a time when everything doesn't need to be JS. Also, if you're just calling into the logic, I'd suggest trying wasm now, since you don't need it to do things like control UI. It would probably work. Not sure you'd get any measurable benefit from it. Just saying.

K/N can do wasm, so why wait? 🙂

Mainly because my coworker who knows enough about our web stack to get it set up is on vacation 😛 We were also a little hesitant since K/N hasn't hit 1.0 yet, so we figured we'd work on other parts of our Kotlin shared code project while K/N matures a bit, but it seems like many other folks are having good success using it so we'll give it a go too

Without your feedback it can’t mature!

Multithreaded coroutines are coming to K/N. Can’t promise anything, but that’s our priority right now.

nice, yeah I'm definitely keeping a pulse on them. For my shared-business-logic-but-not-architecture purposes, I'm keeping a closer eye on things like inline classes/enums and tickets for things like ES2015 module support for JS interop since i'm mostly just using primitives and writing basic logic, but I'm definitely optimistic for eventually moving to more shared architecture

The overall story is foggy at the moment, but we are shaping it as we go

for sure. I know my use case is a little different (converting already-shared-JS-libraries to shared Kotlin libraries) but I'm definitely trying to be vocal about what I need 😛

In some cases my actual/expect extension methods share method names with the actual class they represents. Is this an issue? Any advice on how to fix it besides changing the expect method name?

Let's suppose I want to experiment with a common Kotlin module that uses `ktor-client`: I can put

compile "io.ktor:ktor-client-core:0.9.3"

(plus required repositories) into my build file and Gradle will fetch it, but if I insert

import io.ktor.client.HttpClient

into a source file, I get the error

Unresolved reference: io

As far as I can see in the repository,

ktor-client-core

is a common module, so I should be able to import & use it, right?
