MongoDB is just not a good/best fit for most of webapps that most of us devs work on. SQL/relational databases are still the best for most use cases. And if you need to put unstructured data in it you can for example use JSON/JSONB in postgres which still has additional features on it that Mongo lacks. And SQL/PLSQL > Mongo query power

@orangy it'll be interesting to see if they stick with the static API concept - especially as it's so much easier to define nice DSLs in Kotlin.

@dave @orangy Yeah I moved away from SparkJava because of these static calls everywhere and their unwillingness to correct it (I once sent a harmless PR to improve things and they closed it with barely any discussion)

They didn't strike me as a very open minded bunch

@jw really? Is it actually documented anywhere? Quite happy to be told I'm being blind (please let me know if I am! 🙂 ), but I've had a quick scan of the spark site and couldn't find any obvious signs of it.

@dave If you try SparkJava again, let me know if the injection story is better because last time I tried, it was pretty much impossible to use DI reasonably with it

(and the instance API didn’t change any of that since under the cover, they’re still using statics everywhere)

@cedric I'll report back if I end up using it, but for some reason I'm thinking something else might be my first choice... 😀

As for the static/instance mode thing - surely it can't be that there is still static state being set - that would make the entire exercise seem a bit redundant since you still couldn't mount several apps in the same JVM? (Not having looked into it) i'd expect the static API to back onto a Static "instance" which was used under the covers.

Yeah I meant to send that exact same PR and found out that someone already tried before, so I canceled my PR

per is a bit stubborn about changing the api, but i have created an issue for removing all statics for v3

i use javalin as a playground for new/potential spark features, the javalin-websocket-api is pretty likely to make it into spark v3
