Sharing your repo would avoid you and me loosing time

So I run the tutorial with gradlew bootRun?

good news is that running from the repo works. Comparing the build.gradle in mine and the repo. I generated mine via the spring start page (as specified in the tutorial) and that has a list of plugins. But the repo version does not have a plugins section. So if you also used the spring start page, why is it missing parts?

Interesting. I used the build.gradle from the repo in my tutorial code and …. exactly the same problem. So it is not the build.gradle file that is causing the problem. Perhaps when you are updating the tutorial, it may be useful to follow the tutorial again just to see that it still works at the various stages, rather than just at the end. Also tagging each stage would be useful so that it can be checked out at that stage.

Kudos to @sdeleuze for not giving up on you @norricorp, but as I eagerly await numerous changes he is orchestrating for spring-kotlin (thanks for all the effort so far btw) I am highly nervous about seeing him cater that much to your possibly very personal problems with learning spring/gradle/kotlin. So if you want others to help, share your project at github as requested. I will also be happy to have a look at it then 🙂

I like to use

@SpringBootTest

with

RANDOM_PORT

for running integration tests, but currently it starts up a separate instance for each test class, and I would like to split up the test classes by topic while still retaining one instance of my app to test against

I'm using Junit5 btw

Ok, I can answer my own question here: apparently @SpringBootTest does that automatically by default if I make sure that all test classes use the same configuration, I had some differences in

@ActiveProfiles

which caused it to start multiple instances
