@edvin I'm still facing this issue with the idea-plugin: https://github.com/edvin/tornadofx-idea-plugin/issues/50 I can build using gradle, but not with the plugins run config (and I still dont understand how they are different) ..I guess maybe I should just use another Kotlin version

It could be caused by java 9. Try using java 8.

Hi all. Is there a recommended docking library to use w/ tornadofx? Seems like there’s a couple for JavaFX. (I’m working on porting my desktop diagramming app to kotlin/tornadofx). Thanks for any thoughts. 🙂

What's the earliest point you can call localToScreen on a Node? I tried calling it in an onDock method, but it always returns null.

TornadoQt? Dear all, I work at CERN as the leader of a team who writes Java software to control the LHC and the other accelerators. We have accumulated several MLOC of Java code, using Spring on the serverside and Swing or (more recently) JavaFX for the GUIs. I have used TornadoFX and like it very much – it makes Java GUI development fun again! Well done and thanks a lot! TornadoFX gave me a lot of hope for the future of JavaFX. However my optimism has faded away recently when I read the Oracle whitepaper “Java Client roadmap update”, which says that Oracle will stop support for JavaFX after 2022, while continuing support for Swing through at least 2026. So what about using Qt instead of JavaFX? In the podcast “Talking Kotlin” about TornadoFX, @edvin mentions that they considered to do a Tornado DSL on top of Qt (at 21m40s), which also seemed interesting in conjunction with Kotlin Native (at 32m). Any ideas or plans in this area? If yes, I would be interested in participating… Best regards, Vito Baggiolini

@wakingrufus The testfx tests in the framework run in semi-headless mode I guess, in Travis 🙂 It's using xvfb to have a frame buffer. Might not be what you want, but it could work as well depending on your use case.

If you're into CSS, maybe you can help with the rewrite whenever we get around to it. Or you could spearhead it yourself if you're feeling ambitious.

Mobile is eating a consumer world, though. It is slowly making its way into semi-pro and pro space (will take more than a decade to consume it, I think), so there is a challenge to keep up. There is React/Native and you successfully use it from Kotlin/JS, but I’m not a believer in the concept. All “functional” thing looks nice on paper, but then you have to write lots of boiler-plate code for a trivial task of not loosing user’s edited text, selection, and cursor position, when some new data arrive from a backend. Databinding is badly missing there.

@pike Have you considered using a JsonModel? Then you could just bind an observable list of your model to the table in a builder. https://edvin.gitbooks.io/tornadofx-guide/content/part2/JSON%20and%20REST.html

Pretty sure it's latter. And i think you can't do that automatically as it will appear either on screen with parent window or on screen with focused window (which is not guaranteed to be one where cursor is)

Generally speaking from the way TornadoFX is, or at least how I use it, it's more of a MMVC. the controller fetches data and puts it in the model, and the view holds the model, there's never really any need for the controller to directly manipulate the view.
