@danko9 for now, maybe. It's still undecided how deeply interactive we want the graphs to be. Personally, I am not too vested in the idea because R doesn't have interactive graphs. I'd rather have a comprehensive set of charts than a few that are interactive.

If interactivity is super important, you can use Orson charts.

hmm, yeah different use cases . . . i've found you can't handle much more than 50 points without zooming . . . thousands with zooming. R graphs are good but not amazing . . . plotly/D3 type things are clearly the new world class.

The more I look at it, the more I realize JavaFX charts are fairly comprehensive for a majority of analytical use cases. https://docs.oracle.com/javase/8/javafx/user-interface-tutorial/charts.htm

It doesn't have as many chart types as R or JFreeChart, but I think JavaFX does do the job for 90-95% of use cases. I'd still like to see more though...

@thomasnield would data2viz use SVG for JavaFX? After looking at @gaetan his example yesterday I was under the impression the JavaFX shapes would be used. If those are powerful enough you could build a cross platform dsl which could then "compile" down to an implementation for different platforms (SVG for the web, JavaFX shapes for JavaFX, ...). I have no idea if JavaFX shapes provide enough functionality compared to SVG though.

@teedee Ah, I might have misunderstood and was thrown off by the

I don't see why JavaFX can't be used with shapes, canvases, and all that after watching the crazy things @hansolo_ pulls off (https://harmoniccode.blogspot.com/). Facades with implementations would definitely be an interesting approach too.

@hansolo_ if you ever have an itch to get into charting libraries... you could do so much for the data science world.
