Also, just my two cents. Try not to create DSL's that take Observables as arguments in functions. Try to express everything fluently through Rx operators so your logic easily reads left-to-right, top-to-bottom.

@thomasnield and how to deal better with flatmaps? Because they produce rather ugly code sometimes ;-(

FlatMaps can look ugly if you put a large fluent operation inside of it (like the snippit I posted above). Personally, I don't mind that because it still reads fluently, but if you find it messy start creating extension functions to separate code a bit more, for example:

@thomasnield I think that problem was in my code. The first example should never work. TotalSources(sources=… Done!

Fixed the code, now it seems to work.

@thomasnield BTW do you know maybe some utility (I suppose something excel like) that would generate a table for you application, where you can see all the subscriptions at once and click all of them manually.

Because I takes a lot of time to subscribe to all of the controller observables correctly

@borboss I do not know of such utility that automatically does that, but I do know a number of folks are working on more Rx tooling that could possibly integrate with IDE's one day to help with debugging..

@thomasnield By the way I have an ItemViewModel. So an object is edited there. But I need to perform a rather costly operation, if one of the fields of the object is changed. How to do it better? Make something like CompositeObservable<Pair<T, T>> with old and new copy?

In RxKotlinFX, there is an extension function for every JavaFX property called

toObservableChanges()

. That should give you what you need.

@thomasnield Thomas, actually the problem could not be solved using toObservableChanges(), I just have to lookup in the database for the previous value, because all of the PersonData pass through CompositeObservable, and there can be two PersonData in a sequence, belonging to completely different Persons

Hi all, I'm new to tornadofx and currently to try out all the features and make some notes to probably write a tutorial, later. I'm stuck with a few things and would be very happy if someone can help me with some problems. They seem to be quite easy but I dit not find a solution, yet.

My first question is concerning combo boxes. When I have a textfield it is easy to pass my property via textfield(contactModel.firstName) but how can I arrange this with an editable combobox? The combobox has some default values but I would like to be able to enter my own text or select a value and save it.
