Sorry for the potentially silly question, but how can i view menus in the layout debugger or scenicview? Menus are closed as soon as they lose focus as such i can't switch to other tool to inspect them

@nekoinemo This is NOT a solid way to increase the menu delay as it will tie up the FX thread. It's just for debugging. Add delay to the onHiding event for the relevant menu.

Look for 'setOnHiding' to be added to your Menu objects

So, the other day I was looking to put together a menu with items from a list in my controller and have the act of selecting an item correspond to a controller method call. I eventually googled enough to find

radiomenuitem

and wound up using that. But before I found out about

radiomenuitem

I saw

listmenu

and tried to make that work. I tried putting it under a

menu

item in a

menubar

but couldn't figure out how to make that work. It either never showed up or it showed up underneath some other menu. Obviously I don't know how to use the

listmenu

. What is the typical use for one of these things?

I'm back after an embarrassingly extended time of waiting to get a very expensive repair on my macbook, but I plan on working on my project daily. I've been keeping up with all the really cool UI implementations over the past month though!

I need some opinions on how to approach a basic UI implementation: I want to create a menu of images which I can click and open another dialog per image.

Should I: 1) Create a datagrid of buttons with images 2) implement listview buttons side-by-side so it looks like a grid?

creates a kind of "web 2.0" menu component, it has nothing to do with the menu system of JavaFX. . Is it hte dropdowns or the stuff in the center of the image? I'm also not sure what "web 2.0" menu component implies.

@amanda.hinchman-dominguez Finally :)) Good to hear that you're back on track! Before I read your last line I was thinking "datagrid" to myself. If your list of images can change, or if you just want to do as little work as possible, I think datagrid makes the most sense. If you run into issues, it might need some more features, it's pretty basic for now, but it sounds like it should have everything you need. I'd be happy to add features if it turns out it's too simple for your use case.

@melston Web 2.0 might not be as descriptive as I thought.. hehe.. 🙂 It's just the menu component, the one that turns blue. In my CRM I use two menu components next to each other, with slightly different styles. Both are to the left in this screenshot:

The blue one uses icons only and the grey uses text only. They work nicely together when nested like this as well 🙂

@amanda.hinchman-dominguez did you have to replace the motherboard? My son’s had to be replaced after a year

@carlw it was nearly as bad - maybe equally so: I had to replace my keyboard, the shift key had been permanently activated as some kind of hardware malfunction rendering it totally useless. The keyboard is also attached to the battery, so the part itself was like $400 😬

@edvin this looks really promising! I'll try out the datagrid option, I already got a basic one rendered with images, now I just need them to become buttons. I see in the code there's a way to paginate the data too, so that would be perfect

@amanda.hinchman-dominguez You might not need them to become buttons, you can just register an onclick event 🙂

oh wow that's even better. Not exactly - I'd like to switch views mostly. I only read a little bit into views and fragments, but I haven't gotten to that portion of the documentation yet

@amanda.hinchman-dominguez sorry to hear about the Mac. Check out the Drawer component too which can organize your images with a tab

The number in the above example is the number of clicks you want to trigger on. Default is two (double click), so that's why I added 1 here.
