    @thomasnield Sweet! We should start adding issues for stuff that is missing from the guide, maybe more people could help out also. Many have the knowledge by now 🙂

    Just find out how to make displaying SVG better with TornadoFX. I prefer using "svgicon" over "svgpath" because I can specify the size in svgicon and resize it which serve the purpose of having SVG

    When I put a datagrid in the center of a borderpane, then resize the window, the datagrid automatically rearranges the boxes to resize for me. However, when I put the datagrid on the right, this doesn't work anymore. Why is that, and how can I correct it?

    No, I'm just trying to set up a menu that has a banner on top of it. I don't think there should be any refresh involved.

    @fucata you can always use an imageview instead laid over a circle Shape within a Stackpane, and then have a listener event for mouse clicking

    @jschneider We added special support (generalized) for MigPane a while back. I don’t remember the discussion but there is an example in the comments here: https://github.com/edvin/tornadofx/blob/master/src/main/java/tornadofx/ChildInterceptor.kt

    Is there a way to make the layout debugger show the layouts of a menu while it's open? Tabbing or clicking away from my app to the layout debugger causes the open menus to close, removing the menu items from the layout

    @S can you post a little code? try to break a small chunk off your main program that is easy for someone to cut-and-paste into an IDE in the meantime, have you seen this post on replaceWith()? It might help you https://courses.bekwam.net/public_tutorials/bkcourse_tornadofx_replacewithapp.html

    @fucata I took a brief glance and it looks like you'll want to use
    Region()
    to add to your button as a graphic.

    right. was trying to launder it through objectproperty...what's the nature of the conversion? mapping one field to another?

    Creating and not attaching components right away might seem like what you need, but I'm pretty sure that's due to a misunderstanding. You could create extension functions and call those later on instead most probably. Would love to see the use case where this is needed @S @Gary Tierney @aimozg

    @Ruckus you know, I have - but I had not considered it anything other than their testing; I heard some rumors Gluon is planning on managing JavaFX once it's out of the JDK?

    @carlw @mikehearn Thanks for your recommendations! @amanda.hinchman-dominguez Actually I already began implementing a "backend" using TornadoFX JSON capabilities. My approach was quite simple: 1 JSON file per collection of items. But I'm not sure this will scale well when loading larger collections. I'm working on a budgeting software for personal use - so I need to read and store files like for example a word processor does. But I'm struggling with the format. I really would like some sort of basic SQL (nothing super fancy, only things like querying all transactions with a given account or map&fold a collection of transaction to a final balance). However I don't think a H2/HSQLDB + Hibernate setup is really the thing I want. Some middle ground would be nice. Not worrying about how/when the data is actually stored on disk and having a simple querying interface.

    @aimozg i think the problem may be binding to a TreeCell and not to a MyItem. Are the fields of MyItem property-based?

    I would go back to your stateless first version and see if your editor updates modify the shown MyItem instances. If you don't see the change taking effect, try expanding/collapsing and that might indicate a requestLayout() is needed

    Guys I was wondering, how do I create a new stage and attach a view from my tornadofx application? There are only demo codes of how to use a view on the primary stage from
    App
    , but nothing for additional stages. If I want to open an additional window from my app, I can't use view life cycle methods. As far as I can see from the code is that
    App.start()
    does all the gluing and run the life cycle methods of the main view. But unfortunately these codes are all
    internal
    , even
    view.callOnDock()
    is not accessible. Can we please provide a method which we can reuse or am I missing something terribly?

    @Romanow can you get the UIComponents event to process if you use the background thread option? you'll need to frame your subscribe handling in a Platform.runLater(). maybe that will let you use init{}?

You can display the svg as a node. Check out the link of ImageLoader, and the dependencies at build.gradle https://github.com/WycliffeAssociates/8woc2018-jvm/blob/imageLoader/src/main/kotlin/app/ui/ImageLoader.kt

I’ve since fixed it. The culprit was using wrong property:
icon
instead of correct
graphics
. And then TreeItem constructor with graphics parameter didn’t work as well, because an item is cleared when binding kicks in.
