If you want to make sure that changes to the list doesn't affect the original list, you can make a copy of it after assigning the item:

Looks like you have 4 sizes to choose from, but none of them are 12, 30, or 40 so you'll probably end up with aliasing. The difference is probably platform-dependent in addition to the differences that you're seeing. http://font.ubuntu.com/ Maybe use 16 if you need a Font right away?

I have 11 different sizes for Ubuntu Regular on a 17.10 system

My question is when I have Labels with different font sizes and font style, do I need to call load font with -1 and let the platform decide best size? or do I need to load the same font for all possible sizes depending on the labels?

because in Ubuntu when I load a font with size 40 and try to use it in a label with font size 12.px, I am not getting smooth display
