I've decided to created my custom grid layout with fxml - very useful for other java developers not working with Tornadofx. It's really neat that I can literally inject fxml into portions of my view

I also really like that you can bring javafx elements into your view via fxml, but I was sort of surprised I wasn't able to configure type-safe css for fxml imported components. Is that because you can't use type-safe css for javafx elements?

@amanda.hinchman-dominguez You can style any JavaFX node, no matter how it was created. It doesn't matter that it was the FXMLLoader that instantiated the object, it's still just a normal JavaFX Node instance.

@edvin do you need a special Scene to apply the stylesheet if you’re operating outside of tornadofx?

@carlw If the scene isn't managed by TornadoFX you can add the stylesheets to it manually, no magic there. In Amanda's case, the scene IS managed by TornadoFX, so there should be no issues at all with stylesheets 🙂

@dr.fornax That typically happens when you call a controller function or do something inside of

runAsync

and try to access either a node property or some observable that needs to be handled on the UI thread.

@edvin I will check this when I'm back home. I already thought that this might be like the runOnUiThread problematic on Android. Strange that this happened to an existing project. Maybe a JavaFX change after the upgrade that has something to do with the way the App exits

if type of name is String? then compiler giving error at bind. But if I change the type to String only then it's ok.

Using a builder -- if you have a

form

with a

fieldset

with a

field

that contains a

textarea

, how can I make the textarea grow if the user resizes vertically.

vgrow = Priority.ALWAYS

doesn't seem to work, even if I apply it to every parent container of the

textarea

@kastork I’m on my phone, will give you a better answer later, but vgrow is a property that only makes sense for nodes inside an hbox I think. Will get back to you with a solution when I get to a computer.

vbox

that is holding the

form

and it seems to work
