@carlw I made your endless scroll working in my app after modifying
    updateItem
(had no time before). I forgot if you’ve already answered, but how can I revert listview? I mean, since the list contains messages, I don’t want to start seeing last messages on top, but from bottom to the top and so on (just like in every single IM)

@Ruckus does "order specified" in item #4 mean specified in the class="" definition or the position within the stylesheet? https://www.w3.org/TR/CSS22/cascade.html#cascading-order

@nate I initiate the Model actions from my ViewModel. Sometimes, I'll wrap these in a Task and have the ViewModel expose Task-related properties like progress and running. Because that's where I'm working with the Task, I sometimes facade in the ViewModel, calling two Model functions so that I can slip in an intermediate updateProgress() between them I also have left the progress in an indeterminate state (running=true) while waiting on an event coming from the model. In this case, I initiate the model call which is async from the ViewModel. When the model finishes, it posts an event for interested parties. Receiving this event clears a running/progress flag and prompts the ViewModel to call into the model -- values now saved off -- to retrieve the data.

@Ruckus i'm going to put up a web version of the above program. do you have any stylesheets handy that could dress up the stock ListCell I'm using? I have a pair of Labels assigned to the graphic. There's an hbox added for aligning the times

Where are we at with Java 11 support? I'm already starting to get issues filed with RxJavaFX, and I've been aligning transition strategy to TornadoFX

Its just that with JDK 11 when TornadoFX is added a dependency, maven fails to add the JavaFX transitive dependencies needed for the project to work.

@Kevin Finished up the conversion with LogPane and added a Type Safe CSS Style for the delete route button. I tested add and delete on the ConsumerPane. I converted what you called "MessageView" into MessageModel. This mainlines it as a TornadoFX component so that it's eligible for CDI. That's important so that your business logic can get at the Format JSON flag. This class will probably run in a different thread because of Camel and Kafka so it's important that it not block the FX Thread or work with FX objects off the FX thread. So, I added a runAsync() in main to prevent a glitch while Kafka starts up and used the EventBus to communicate an add back to the main UI. https://github.com/bekwam/kafka-gui

If you feel you need to reference the label/UI element, in most situations there is a better way. Not sure I caught what you wanted to do. Do you have a Boolean property that should be bound to the visible property of each label or the other way around?

@Kevin there's an event example in my Kafka GUI fork. I assumed the add route function could occur off the FX Thread so I posted a background thread event when a message is added. It's caught by a controller and wrapped in a Platform.runLater(). The subscription adds it indirectly to the screen through a bound collection.

Refactoring a fat Controller to several other Controllers via fx:include is painful. I restored to hand-editing the FXML to cut a chunk out of the source file and replace it with fx:include. Moving things around, I bobbled a field name (txtURL versus tfURL) and had to restart the app. Then I bobbled a type "ComboBox" versus "ChoiceBox". Another restart. These are consequences of the FXML being out-of-sync with the Java code. IntelliJ has some features for highlighting that help. For instance, the methods and fields can be related at the IDE level. However, when you're moving fast, cutting and pasting a lot, these aren't always in realtime.
