if you're new to javafx, i'd start with the oracle version since it gives you the best chance to work out of the box. The javafx classes will be available just like any part of the JDK like ArrayList or String. * sigh *

An OSGI approach to the idea of a container for desktop java applications. https://bitbucket.org/lorainelab/igb-fx/overview This is the newer JavaFX based version which is not really done, but there's more info about the concept in the "classic" version of igbe (https://bitbucket.org/lorainelab/integrated-genome-browser), and the working app is more interesting. yeah so IGB has a few patterns i'd like to avoid, beyond the rather poorly crafted ux (e.g. a windows installer wizard even on a mac)

one is the notion of apps being user visible and things you install from repositories.

the point of calling it a "Foo Browser" and having a roughly web browser inspired UX, beyond getting over the "wat not web" fear factor, is to avoid the mentality that comes with desktop and mobile apps

it should be like the web - you name something or click something, and the software is running. updates, download, etc are all entirely transparent and extremely fast because the app is designed from the start for streaming.

Photon is great, sounds modern, but its not googleable. Kaon is also cool sounding subatomic particle that sounds more like Kotlin, but its way heavier than electrons.

I found a funny quirk of JavaFX styling. Create a shape with the following properties - line drawing uses custom dash definition - line cap set to square - dash array has 0 length drawn segments and non 0 length drawn segments You'll see the non 0 length segments are drawn along the stroke, and the square ends are rotated to match, but the 0 length segments are not rotated and stay vertically aligned.

Actually, I can't. I'm running it against JDK 8, and they want bug reports that can be verified against JDK 10, and I don't have access to a JDK 10 environment. If anyone else wants to take it and check, I can provide a CSS that will demonstrate it.
