i usually do this in a roundabout way. one view calls for the change, say a Refresh Button. That updates a model which fires an event. Then another component picks up the change called the ViewModel. The ViewModel is bound to the 2nd View and automatically updates.

I need to update a screen after closing the current one

I've seen tons of problems when View updates get coupled. Worked on a few JavaFX projects with multiple developers who often jumped in when fixing a ticket, grabbed a handle to what ever View then needed, then just started calling it. Quickly became a big problem

Would you have any examples of implementing this solution?

this is a javafx example. if there were a second View, it would receive model updates too https://fxdocs.github.io/docs/index.html#_model_change_with_mvvm

If you feel like you need to update another view, that might be a code smell. As Carl pointed out, using events is kind of the last resort, if not simply updating the ViewModel shared between those views is enough.

Working on a JavaFX demo on the Raspberry PI (will get to TornadoFX too). FX was pulled from the ARM builds starting with 1.8.0_33, so it's not working out-of-the-box. This email points me to a Gluon JDK distro http://mail.openjdk.java.net/pipermail/openjfx-dev/2015-January/016570.html

@RuckusI was a little skeptical of the Qt vs FX video but think it was accurate. I wrote a simple SplitPane containing two Labels wrapped in VBoxes. The action works but it’s flaky meaning that you may have to repeat the drag a few times. I think the narrowness of the splitters the a factor or javafx is misinterpreting the touch drag as a simple mouse down

when i get a chance, i'm going to look at this some more, maybe writing the same app in Qt for comparison. I'd post the code to GitHub and use TornadoFX instead of plain JavaFX along with the exact hardware specs.

this would make a good kiosk-style demo of TornadoFX too. The Scene completely takes over the screen.

is there a way to make a tableview <Sample> that displays the content of a List<Double> that is part of <Sample>

each <Sample> instance contains the same number of elements in that list

@edvin do you imagine there's a way to have the IDEA plugin present the tree structure of the builder DSL when you summon the File Structure Popup?

currently, all that is exposed (of the DSL) is the root, because that's the only variable assignment

I suppose it doesn't have to be the File Structure Popup itself, but some kind of view that is similar -- an outline of the DSL structure and quick navigation to points in that outline

Anybody knows if I can add a null value to a combobox? I found some things on stackoverflow that its only possible by adding a "fake" element to the list - is there a better way in tornadofx?
