Is there a way to add extra blank space at the bottom of a datagrid? I tried padding it, but it only made the datagrid, scroll bar and all, scoot up the screen. I want to add something like blank cells to the bottom, except unclickable.

Sort of. I'm trying to make it possible to scroll past the last option, so that I can put a banner over the bottom of the datagrid and still scroll far enough to see the last entries. (Come to think of it, I don't know how to make two clickable things stack on top of each other, but one step at a time. :))

There's no ChipView in JavaFX. Some people find extra controls in projects like ControlsFX that can be brought over

however, it's easy to make your control. i can post some code later. roughly, you use a FlowPane to hold the buttons below a standard TextField and Button

the Buttons will combine a graphic (the phone receiver), text (the number), and the X to delete

the FlowPane will give you the wrapping to mix long and short numbers without gaps

@S with your scrolling...are you trying to do the type of refresh you typically find in a mobile phone?

Ah, thank you! At the moment I'm trying to make it from scratch in a similar fashion to what you described. Currently hung up on RxKotlin and was wondering if there was a library with the same functionality, but I suppose I'll have to do it "the hard way" 🙂

@Kimberly H i think we're all hoping that the new Open JFX caretakers of JavaFX are going to encourage new development including expanding the libraries of components

@Kimberly H is the ChipView entirely RAM-based? are there any long-running network operations to validate the entered phone numbers or to save them immediately?

The phone example is a screenshot I pulled of what I wanted the widget to do, ideally; I'm actually creating a language selecting widget (where the user can select multiple languages for their profile). The languages will be pulled from a pre-existing list in a combobox, so there's no need to validate the inputs.

got it. and what do you need RxKotlin for?

Currently what I'm doing is storing the user input in an arraylist; so I have an observable subscribed to the list, and it will add a button to the screen each time the list is updated with the new language.

(I'm new to RxKotlin, so I've been struggling to get that to work, but that's what I'm in the middle of now.)

In TreeView, is it somehow possible to have multiple root elements? That is, not a single expandable element at the top, and the rest inside, but multiple at the top? Or do I need to create multiple TreeViews?

i think VBox and multiple TreeViews are what you want

Okay, but now I have another problem. They take a lot of vertical space. I want them to be as small as possible when not expanded and grow as needed when expanded. Can you help me with that?

You need to have a single root (as that is how trees work), but

TreeView

does allow you to hide the root, which is usually good enough.
