@carlw all things being equal - would you choose scopes or parameters to pass information to fragments as in this example?

In my case, I use parameters for the transient Fragment windows that I'm displaying. I use scopes for building different CDI object hierarchies. Say you have 3 open IntelliJ projects, each distinct window gets a ProjectScope. When you wire up those 3 views, things like "filename" will appear several times through the app, one per window. If you want to display a dialog from one of these 3 Views, create a fragment and pass in the arguments. This is referred to as "MDI" in the docs. You write your program as though there were just one window at a time and the scope lets you bring up more than one mini-app without any crosstalk.

Speaking of Windows apps, I'd use scopes for distinct Windows Explorer instances. To display the properties of any given file (right-click), I'd use the parameter passing.

@carlw - thanks for the thorough explanation. I asked because I usually create a new scope for dialog fragments. I find when looking at a fragment based on parameters that it's not obvious (to me) that they are there whereas I know that a scope is injected. Although if your 'convention' is to always pass parameters to fragments I can see that working as well.

Hi everyone! I'm completely new to TornadoFX. I have a side project I'm working on that involves rendering with OpenGL but I want to have a nice UI to wrap around it. Basically I would need a UI (hopefully in TornadoFX) that would have a number of UI components (not even sure I'm using the right TFX terminology) one of which would need to be some instance of an OpenGL renderer. 3D models in the OpenGL component would be updated by other TornadoFX controls. Any thoughts or information you can point me to?

@mattmoore Sadly that's not really possible right now. TornadoFX uses JavaFX under the hood, and JavaFX doesn't currently have support for OpenGL rendering. There is an ongoing task to add it though: https://bugs.openjdk.java.net/browse/JDK-8167148

There are some 3d shapes in javafx if you don't have a specific OpenGL need and can use a functional equivalent

Interesting question, indeed. Has anyone used JOGL (jogamp.org) with JavaFX?

Thanks for the info everyone. It's possible I might not need OpenGL. I'll look into 3D shapes and jogamp to see if that works for me. 🙂

i think that's best. I'm compiling JavaFX 8 from hand and it requires Windows 7 libraries. I don't know if the community has the fortitude to support an OpenGL node right now even though that would be a great idea. I myself wouldn't have a need for it since I get by with my consulting clients using the basic 2d and 3d shapes

@nimarko it was not anyway a complete product. Just a basic skeleton of a pluggable app in tornadofx. I am afraid development is very slow due to my other engagement 🙂

Afternoon. Can anyone help me with this? I want to construct a table where I can use a button to open/close items below. When the table loads, if I set the children to visible, they show, or not. However, if I click on the button, although I change the children's properties, the table filter doesn't reflect. What am I missing? ...any ideas

This is driving me mental

I can't get sort to work either. So I'm stuck with getting the filter to work for a property against a row that get's changed. If I remove then add a row, it is shown/replaced. However, if I change the visible property, nothing happens. I can't get the sorting working either
