It should, but see how the edges curve in the effect? I don't thin that's possible in JavaFX. I believe Nodes can only do affine transformations (all parallel lines remain parallel).

You could try it with taking a bitmap capture, but I'm not sure how efficient it would be

Yeah I imagine it might not be worthwhile, resource or development-time wise. Was hoping it would be fairly trivial to implement using the right property value transitions.

I've never tried something like it, so it might be worthwhile to look into it briefly. It may be easier than I expect.

@deutronomium: I've confirmed that the modal stage does reload it's stylesheets, but even though the stylesheet is successfully removed and added, it is simply not reapplied. I changed the function to just remove the stylesheet, and the styles do disappear, but they are never reapplied. Very strange.

(This only happens for modal windows it seems)

Huh.. even stranger.. I added one View with a button, and applied some styles to the button. Clicking the button opens a modal window. Styles are never reapplied while the modal window is opened, but they are immediately reapplied when the modal window closes.

If I open multiple modal windows, the styles are only reapplied when the last modal window closes. I'm really curious to know what's going on here.

I committed a test app called

ReloadStylesInModal

if somebody wants to see this weirdness in action. I also moved all tests to tornadofx.test so they need to import tornadofx classes just like "everybody else".

We might add more "integration tests" like this one, which are complete apps that you can run to test functionality 🙂

It seems to have to do with some css dirty state not beeing set correctly by JavaFX itself..

I found a workaround, by changing the css url (adding a parameter) whenever it is reloaded. Will refine it a bit later and commit a fix.

I'm working around some strange state they're setting in the stylesheet handling by ensuring that the stylesheet gets a unique URL when it is reloaded.

so, this is something thats driven me nuts since I started with javafx

given an observable list (or set, which actually is more typical of our model, but javafx seems to like lists more than sets) of domain models

can I project that list to an observable list of view elements?

and then bind that projections content to a parent's children?

can tornadofx help me out here?

It would probably be easier to instead use a

ListView

with a custom cell renderer (and maybe some styling if you don't want it look like a list view), but it should be possible (though collection bindings are a pain). I don't know if TornadoFX will help with that use case in particular, but @thomasnield might have some Rx tricks up his sleeve that could help.
