Thanks for looking at this. It's working on my linux machine now too with the .css in the resources root. I did a Gradle clean that must have helped.

Yeah, that's probably it. I've seen so much lag with Gradle config updates in IDEA that I just don't feel comfortable using it. Anyways, great to have figured it out. Also, I just realized that we should warn about putting stuff in the

init

block of the app class, because it could yield a classnotfoundexception because the class can't be initialized. I'll make sure all TornadoFX calls that make sense to call from there will catch exceptions and log instead of blowing up.

@edvin good idea about the init() method. I could figure out what was going on, but an error mentioning a missing BKCourseApp.main function when one doesn't exist in a Kotlin sense is confusing

You might have to revisit the FX::class.java.getResource(stylesheet) with Java 9. I think there's more separation in the modules that divides FX.kt from the user's Kotlin

@carlw Yeah, that really sucks. We could also just recommend to do stuff in the

init()

function instead of the init block. The init function is already part of the JavaFX lifecycle, so it's a perfect fit, and then you'd get the stack trace instead of this confusing message.

@carlw I know, there are some minor adjustments needed for JDK9, but it seems pretty easy.

@edvin that java 9 comment isn't directed at tornadofx. finding resources in modules is going to be needed for a lot of other frameworks like spring and apache cxf although i think everything will be backward compatible if you still throw everything into one classpath the way it is today

@carlw That's right, I think you have an out you can use for modules that need to export everything, don't remember the exact mechanics of it though.

@carlw I'll have a look at using type safe css with scene builder now as well, just for fun. I suspect it might work out of the box, because I have a service loader that should run when the tornadofx.jar is on the class path, so the css:// url handler might be auto-registered.

Wasn't there a way to include arbitrary jars on the classpath for scene builder? Can't find it now...

Try to create a small stylesheet now. It's possible to add stylesheet for a scene or something directly in fxml, isn't it?

Tried to add it manually, but then the UI is just blank in scene builder. No luck 😞

I usually add the stylesheet manually through Preview > Scene Style Sheets

then you use scene builder to assign the class. select the note and there's a class combobox

OK. I might play more with this later, but for now it's possible to export the type safe stylesheet to a text version to import it into scene builder.

@thomasnield I just released a new version of the plugin with the fixes we discussed. @ron I tried to solve your issue with ViewModel not resolving super type properties, but I couldn't find an elegant way to do it 😞 Will try again later.
