@permalmberg Sometimes, I also create template objects in FXML. For example, create a notional blue rectangle of a particular dimension. Then, in the .java code, remove it from the container. Add it back when needed. This is nice if you want to see how the shapes look with the background and with other shapes in Scene Builder.

@edvin Do you have a blog that you could capture your vision with? The tweet you just sent out made me think that maybe an occasional statement on the project direction would be of interest.

I hesitate to leave Ubuntu environment mostly because I use several Debian/Ubuntu apps like Spotify. Plus, Mint is just so dang nice.

I feel like I should give Fedora a try though since almost everything I do is enterprise stuff.

I really liked Fedora, but the lack of HiDPI support in JavaFX forces me to go back to Windows. Sucks :( It's fixed in JDK9, but JDK9 and IDEA are not good friends yet.

@permalmberg For containers, there is a set of static methods like VBox.setVGrow( node, Priority) which sets out rules for how extra space is distributed. For example, a Toolbar might be set to Priority.NEVER and a main content pane set to Priority.ALWAYS. If there is extra space, all of the space will be directed to the main content pane. I'm not aware of any similar behavior for Shapes. You can use binding as in this example. Two Rectangles stretch to fill the available width and each fills half the available height.

@edvin that's why I hesitated to upgrade to 4K. Software needs to catch up to it especially on Linux

@thomasnield It's so weird. I've been running 4K and 5K since 2013 with no issues on the Mac. When I switched to Windows there were minor issues (old software renders blurry, even worse than on non-4K, some software render dialogs very small), and on Linux it was actually better than Windows, but not quite as on the Mac. Only JavaFX was unusable on Linux. Frustrating. It's impossible to go back from 4K to 1080 😢 so Windows will have to do for now.

@thomasnield I don't really see Fedora making a difference for "enterprise stuff". On Windows you have domain controllers and such, but in Linux people mostly use standalone software anyways, so you're probably just as well off with Mint. I'll give Mint a try as well, just to see if they made a magical workaround for JavaFX 🙂 hehe

@carlw A blog is a good idea. I've been wanting to create a proper web page for TornadoFX. There could be a blog section on there as well, and you could all contribute if you want. We've just started selling a site builder software called Weebly. If I can make a nice Kotlin code component for it we might be able to leverage that platform. I'll look into it!
