Got it installed, but javac is not in my path, and I can't find any configuration for the plugins.

Does it support maven structured projects?

maybe the code runner extension does. the Java experience in vscode is still not very good (AFAIK). c# and typescript is top-notch.

I found the settings.json that contains the command to run javac 🙂 This seems very simplistic 🙂

Nothing wrong with that, but it has no support for setting up the classpath based on a project descriptor it seems.

There is a gradle plugin that allows you to run gradle tasks though. Actually kind of nice to offload everything to a build system.

But no support for Maven.

Actually, it says that the RedHat plugin for Java language support should have it.

Does the

bindBidirectional()

somehow shadow the

addListener()

functionality? This would be new to me.

I suspect this is an issue with the garbage collector. When selectedCity within the

vbox {}

closure runs out of scope, it will be disposed and collected.

Solution is to define

selectedCity

as a property/field instead of a local variable.

AFAIR a lot of the property stuff in JavaFX uses weak references.

I think you might be right however, that the weak references are thrown away, so you have to define it in a scope that lasts longer.

I thought about an approach for documenting TestFX. in general I like the approach used in the Tornado guide: show how it is done with boilerplate code and gradually improve the code to make it more "idiomatic".

this is basically "show me the perfect solution" vs. "tell me how it works and how it not works, and why we made this design decision"

I noticed, that the wiki is maybe a good place to show the "perfect" solutions (let the user solve their problem). and a guide to tell the user the intentions behind it (let the user understand)

@hastebrot Nice that you noticed this. The plan for the Wiki is to turn it into a cookbook once everything is migrated to the guide. There we would only present "the perfect solution". These two approaches seem to compliment each other quite nicely 🙂
