@gtnarg right. yes, since the list will not change with a single REST request.

I feel so lost without a computer, out in the Lithuanian forrest :) Hehe.. Grant is correct, it's a convenience so you can use it directly in several places without having to convert it to an observable list. If you don't need observable, it's still a list, so it felt like the best choice to reduce potential boilerplate.

@hastebrot You might find this blog post useful. https://edvin.town/leveraging-tornadofx-to-the-fullest/ It's architected as MVVM (sounds like you're on MVC). MVVM will help if you find many views needing access to that updated files list.

@carlw Thanks. I'll have a look. Yeah, I'm exploring the architecture that is described in the first chapters of the TFX guide and try to write tests for it. Will look into MVVM (I previously used Knockout.js a few years ago) and try to also write tests for this architecture.

BTW possible interview question for me in February: is JavaFX primarily MVC or MVP? I guess FXML/App/Stage/Scene are something like MVP, but the JavaFX components API uses something like MVC.

There are a few discussion threads on the OpenJFX mailing list about the new public API for components in JavaFX 9 I need to read...

@hastebrot I'm not familiar with MVP, but I think MVC is a little misleading when describing JavaFX out-of-the-box. In my opinion, MVC has a Controller that mediates between a Model and a View but in JavaFX the Controller -- in FXML terms -- is completely tied to the View. I like Microsoft's term "code behind" to describe the pairing of .fxml with a Java class.

@carlw (And other FXML gurus) To support the issue mentioned above in a meaningful way I'd have to create a custom FXMLLoader. Doing that would also remove the need for that stupid

hasControllerAttribute

parameter. Are there other valuable things we could do if we create a custom FXMLLoader? I will be quite an undertaking, so I'd like to gain as much functionality as possible if we do it.

@edvin Do you think that supplying a TornadoFX ControllerFactory to the stock FXMLLoader would work? Users would enter a Kotlin class in fx:controller rather than a Java class. The ControllerFactory would provide the mechanism to link the class' fxml() properties and functions.

Amazing. So great. I'm still missing a timeline debugger similar to those in Firefox and Chrome. Problem is, that this debugger should not run within the same JVM or Quantum Toolkit instance, since it will cause events itself.

@hastebrot you mean a timeline debugger showing class instantiation and object creation in the way that the web timelines show page loads?

@carlw More like showing JavaFX pulses, things from the JavaFX application and render threads.

@carlw No, that doesn't solve the issue. I'm already using a custom ControllerFactory. Let me double check, but I think I need to know up front if the user configured a fx:controller or not.

@edvin When i use fx:include, i also add Controllers.

@hastebrot The Layout Debugger in TornadoFX is very limited, but we can make it do anything. It was never the intention to "compete" with Scenic View though, just to provide some easy debugging help.
