It could be an extension on Image, Rectangle etc.

In the code above you seem to load the image on the UI thread. That could be problematic for larger images.

You should use background loading and calculate once it's available.

The `drawer`s look great.

The Workspace has built in support for the Drawer control. You can access workspace.leftDrawer and workspace.rightDrawer to add items to each drawer.

How easy is it to customize the drawers? Say I want to have drawers with icons and horizontal text under it.

TornadoFX provides a lot of functionality out-of-the-box. There are different things mixed together in the components. In german we call it eierlegende Wollmilchsau ‎(literally "egg-laying wool-milk-sow"). I'm somehow not used to it, but definitely see the advantages here. The pace when developing applications with Tornado is really great.

@gtnarg Wollmilchsau is a bit negatively connotated, in a more critical perspective. Swiss Army Knife is something like "yeah, you can do everything with it". However, I don't see the big disadvantages in this approach right now. It's great.

@hastebrot The drawers are a ToggleButton, so you can do whatever you want with the graphic and label property. I'm looking at providig a couple of default drawer items for the bottomDrawer in the workspace, and they would need to display dynamic information like a progress bar and and a status icon etc, so I will investigate if we need further support to facilitate this.

do you have a "StatusBar" thingy that you could use for that in the Workspace?

The bottomDrawer actually works as a status bar as well.

In the screencast I added it to the top toolbar. I need to investigate how it will work in the bottom drawer. Alternatively we can add one below the bottomDrawer, like IDEA does 🙂
