Java 8 bytecode support Kotlin has now the option of generating Java 8 bytecode (-jvm-target 1.8 command line option or the corresponding options in Ant/Maven/Gradle). For now this doesn't change the semantics of the bytecode (in particular, default methods in interfaces and lambdas are generated exactly as in Kotlin 1.0), but we plan to make further use of this later. Java 8 standard library support There are now separate versions of the standard library supporting the new JDK APIs added in Java 7 and 8. If you need access to the new APIs, use kotlin-stdlib-jre7 and kotlin-stdlib-jre8 maven artifacts instead of the standard kotlin-stdlib. These artifacts are tiny extensions on top of kotlin-stdlib and they bring it to your project as a transitive dependency.

There is no reason not to use -jvm-target 1.8 since we have a requirement on JDK8 for JavaFX 8.

I thought everything passed so I committed, but I hadn't done a clean build. When running the tests, I get:

Every test works when I remove the weigthedWidth function. I don't quite understand how this is wrong, maybe the Kotlin compiler has a bug?

The recently added combobox tests actually had a type error that compiled with Kotlin 1.0.6, but that is clearly wrong. This was caught by the Kotlin 1.1 compiler.

I wonder how the JavaFX coroutines work and if they would be a good replacement to the current async funtions we have in TornadoFX.

But that may be a question for later since they're still experimental.

@edvin Just curious... so when you switch to 1.1.0 the test apps all run fine? I tried rebuilding and running a few and get a similar error message for the ones I try to run.

@jchildress I changed it. And I found (partially) what's causing it. It's the jvmTarget=1.8. Without it, it works great.

Make sure it's set? Or take it off? for the target platform setting in IntelliJ?

@jchildress I added it to the pom 🙂 Hang on, will explain in a second, just need to minimize the sample project I used to trigger the bug. I had to add substantial parts of TornadoFX to trigger it, but I just now realized it started to fail after I introduced the jvmTarget, so I'm reducing it now.

. That should work. Then edit the pom and uncomment the configuration/jvmTarget lines and rerun
