Has anyone read "Programming Kotlin" by Stephen Samuel? If yes, would you recommend it?

@abhinay I did... I like it. Not as "deep" as Kotlin in Action, but still pretty good. I grabbed the Kindle version. I didn't finish it as I got the final version of Kotlin in Action and went though it instead.

I really like Kotlin in Action.... I'll need to go back and reread/finish "Programming Kotlin".

I am looking for a book to learn Kotlin "basics".

@ron I think "Normally a ViewModel() whould be used to create". Actually, you still use a ViewModel in your example, but you don't subclass it.

yeah I was struggling with describing that part

without going in a lot of code showing subclassed ViewModel with a backing “business object"

I found it important in the example to show why a model was there (the validators)

enableWhen/disableWhen

functions, but what was new today was actually the

model.valid

property, and that you can call

model.validate(decorateErrors = false)

to update the valid state without preemptively decorating the failed fields. I don't know if that's an important distinction though.

Very glad you wrote this piece, this needs to go into the guide as well.
