I think the JVM-based part is one that make Kotlin special.
Currently, Java is the first choice in enterprise software and systems, JVM is so well-optimized, the community is so large. Every libraries we'll ever need are already there.
Being JVM-based helps Kotlin inherit all JVM's greatness.
