Each state can have different candidates. It actually takes time and money to get on to each state's ballot, so many lesser known third party candidates only get on a few (for example, Evan McMullin was only on the ballot in 11/50 states). The larger and more established parties will be in all states (Republican, Democrat, Libertarian, Green, etc).
