For teaching my own kids I’m used to the amuse->wonder->discuss->explain loop. E.g. “look, there is snow everywhere, but there is somehow strip of empty ground from this house. I wonder, why is that?”. Then we discuss various possibilities for this to happen, until kid gets to some conclusion. Then I explain a little bit of science behind, asking and answering numerous “why”, “what if”, “how” questions. Eventually, loop is closed by applying new knowledge to another “look”, often by kid this time.
