Personal anecdote: Back in school a compsci professor visited us and showed us an autonomous mini-car driving around a parcours. Then he showed a Java applet (this was 2000), where a car (basically a rectangle, with small rectangles as wheels) automatically parked in a parking lot. The other kids were amazed by the mini-car, but I was amazed by the Java applet, because I thought "I could do that, too". I previously programmed graphic stuff in BASIC in elementary school. This was the reason why I restarted to learn programming.
