Looks like it's not possible to override the plusAssign on an inline class though 😧... it says it can't cast Baz to java.lang.Map... when declaring operator fun plusAssign(other: Baz) { s.mergeWith(other) } inside the previous Baz inline class, (with a top level fun MutableMap<String, Any>.mergeWith(o: Map<String, Any>, and s defined as MutableMap)
