OK, gradle/kotlin question - I have a Kotlin module that depends on Java 8. Setting sourceCompatibility in gradle doesn't seem to work, wisdom found on stackoverflow suggest that this is because sourceCompatibility is checked by the java plugin when a compileJava task is run, which makes sense. However this module doesn't have any Java in it. So, I guess the JDK version is never checked.
