A modern programming language that makes developers happier.

I'm considering a project to position Kotlin a first JVM language, and I may get the ball rolling next week. I'm getting the impression there are programming newcomers that would benefit from learning Kotlin before Java. It's syntactically easier and more accessible. I've met also .NET,  Python,  and other non-JVM developers that want to learn Kotlin too. Then there are data science folks who tried to learn Scala for Apache Spark but found it too esoteric. Kotlin might be more intuitive for Spark development especially for those that are not software engineers. 

What do you guys think?  Are there any considerations you would add?
