the question in my mind is which platforms are popular enough to justify the effort of a whole native compiler backend for Kotlin, but not big enough to justify the effort for Java. i suspect there aren't any, and given that the input to most (all?) such AOT compilers is JVM bytecode anyway, it'd make more sense to support or integrate with such projects
