in a language, major version is reserved for “incompatible” language changes. If we ever want to break backwards compatibility, we will bump major version. Minor version is language evolution, so it’s backwards compatible, but not forward compatible. Next number is for (hopefully) compatible changes, and that’s what we are using. We need to plan it pretty precise, and that’s single number that we have. We can’t use 1.0.x, because it doesn’t help with planning. It’s just “sometime in the future”.
