Hm I think I now get it why it won’t work due to Java interop. But my initial thinking was, why couldn’t Kotlin compile it to public but yet treat it as if it were private (which I suppose would be possible as long as the caller is Kotlin code). However now it occurred to me that from a piece of Java code it will appear public which would be bad
