@david: we use the Java version from Kotlin, and there are times where it is annoying to have to be exposed to Scala classes and functions (awkward, a few type inference issues), but mostly works fine. I think we have 1 helper class implemented on top of a series of extensions, and the helper class translates on internal Scala type we need, can't remember off the top of my head which it was, but can look in the code. We've used them together since Aug 2014
