I typically design my backends as JSON APIs (little to no HTML rendering).

I like async pipelines so that a request doesn't have to be handled entirely on one thread.

I'm not as fascinated with devops as I am with my product so a simple way to deploy is nice.

I tend to not like being tied into things like network libraries or database interfaces (orms or mappers, etc...), but pluggable interfaces for these things are cool
