sometimes, you'll have a function with more than 1 generic param and putting the type on your variable will make it so you don't have to write any of the generics because they can be inferred. For 1 param, it's up in the air, but for 2 or more, you get a clear readability advantage from putting the type on the variable, so for consistency's sake, I apply that rule whenever possible, regardless of the number of params
