speculative but I think that Google wants to pull resources away from ART and use a close-to-vanilla OpenJDK/JVM instead to focus their resources on implementing WebAssembly support in Chrome which might become the next vendor-independent (as supported by Apple, Google, Mozilla, and Microsoft) “bytecode” version?
