doing some testing with TestNG:

    fun `array stuff`() = assertEquals(arrayOf(4, 5, 99, 17), arrayOf(4, 9, 16))

produces output

java.lang.AssertionError: Expected <[Ljava.lang.Integer;@59e84876>, actual <[Ljava.lang.Integer;@61a485d2>.

which ... is true, but not so readable as I was hoping for.
