ok, so

if (item.value is Map<*, *>) {
    val result = (item.value as Map<String, Any>).get(“key”)
}

casts it and you get result as the right datatype. getRaw happens to work because Any is the type of the value, but if this wasn’t the case, you would want to type your map before using it. You still might get an untyped cast warning, but you can suppress that
