My feeling is that a lot of people gravitate towards this slack because it’s marketed as and feels “official” – helps that it’s hosted by JetBrains.

There are other Android discussions sites, but i bet if Google hosted an official Android slack/discord/meet/whatever, it would take off instantly. AFAIK, none of the existing ones have that same “official” feel.
