Yeah no better approach for now, but I am doing good progress on https://jira.spring.io/browse/SPR-15673 and my goal is to have https://github.com/spring-projects/spring-boot/issues/8762 fixed for Spring Boot 2.0. That may be non-trivial but I will do my best to work with Spring Boot team to fix that. Current behavior is a pain clearly.
