As for simulations and visualization with tornado, I've recenytly moved one of our old projects to github (due to deprication of hg support on bitbucket - sad thing as well): <https://github.com/mipt-npm/muon-monitor-sim>. The starting task for visualization is `monitorFX`. I almost finished a multi-platform visualization engine version, which includes js and jfx, but I have some troubles with providing orbital camera controls in JavaFX (help is welcome): <https://github.com/mipt-npm/dataforge-vis/tree/dev/demo/muon-monitor>
