I will keep digging into this over the weekend, but my second thought is have you considered creating a separate library and then publishing the library? (It doesn't necessarily have to be on Maven Repository but maybe a private JitPack - I favor creating dependencies to put in my pom.xml or gradle.build over sub modules as I find them to be a bit of a pain myself)
