if I may give an opinion, being able to report as junit does is kinda important, ofc from my limited experience, but it might ease introduction in existing projects, as probably those already use junit and report to CI tools like Jenkins which understands junit. From what I saw, companies even ditch gradle html reporting which imo looks nicer than junit xml one. If I even understood what you are talking about
