this might be related to https://github.com/gradle/gradle-script-kotlin/issues/130, but if my build.gradle is my rootprojects build fileand i have:

buildscript {
  ext {
    kotlinVersion = '1.1-M03'
  }
  dependencies {
    classpath("org.jetbrains.kotlin:kotlin-gradle-plugin:$kotlinVersion")
  }
}

plugins {
  id 'io.ratpack.ratpack-java' version '1.4.4'
  id 'com.github.johnrengelman.shadow' version '1.2.4'
}

apply plugin: 'kotlin'

and in the build.gradle.kts

import ratpack.gradle.RatpackExtension
fun ratpackModule(moduleName: String): Dependency = project.extensions.getByType(RatpackExtension::class.java).dependency(moduleName)

both the import and the fun fail there
