I think this should work:

suspend fun <T> List<Deferred<T>>.race(): T = coroutineScope {
    val winningValue = CompletableDeferred<T>()
    [e-mail] { racer ->
        launch {
            val winningCandidate = racer.await()
            [e-mail] { if (it != racer) racer.cancel() }
            winningValue.complete(winningCandidate)
        }
    }
    winningValue.await()
}
